Finally, a course that brings it all together for backcountry. The EAST Course enlightens skiers how to efficiently use a variety of alpine touring equipment and get the most from your equipment. This course identifies the characteristics of equipment designed for various conditions and skiing styles.

Consider this, you will gain knowledge on how to choose equipment according to your desired skiing style. In the field we teach Alpine Touring and Speed Touring uphill and downhill techniques. Goal objectives include track setting, group spacing and communication, skinning steep surfaces, booting steep surfaces, kick-turns, efficient transitions, rappel entries, ski belays, and glacier travel.

Other topics of the EAST Course include how to plan travel to unfamiliar locations, choosing destinations, tracking the seasonal snowpack, route planning, navigation, pack contents, food and shelter, choosing ski approaches and ski lines, and emergency preparations, for instance. Students will learn how to travel more efficiently to increase their confidence and range.
